The President of Syria, Bashar Al Assad, welcomed the proposals of Russia to resolve the conflict in the nation, including the initiative to create a Commission to develop the Syrian Constitution.
“Yesterday our representative to the United Nations, Mr (Bashar) Jaafari, announced that we support the Russian initiatives, various initiatives, not only this, and now to discuss the details with the Russians”, reported Al-Assad.
The Syrian President also criticized the armed opposition for not attending the dialogue in Astana. “How can we start something concrete, if we don’t have a partner (for dialogue)? “Yes, we are willing to discuss any issue, including the Constitution, but we need to know who will be in Geneva and if going to negotiate this document”, said.
The office of the Special Envoy of the UN for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, reported that the dialogue will continue on March 23.
The conflict in Syria takes six years, during which the forces Government of Bashar Al-Assad faced with terrorist groups and the armed opposition (composed of mercenaries) seeking its overthrow, which received financing from Western countries, especially United States (U.S.).
