WHO commends the Cuban health system

The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Margaret Chan, called the health care system Cuba as an example to follow thanks to its capacity and sustainability to respond in emergency situations.

Chan also highlighted the role of health professionals from the island during the Ebola epidemic in African countries.

Parliamentary delegations and WHO Director at the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) met Tuesday during the debate focused on the issue of migration.For his part, the head of the Cuban delegation to the IPU, Deputy Yolanda Ferrer, explained that the political will of States and solidarity to achieve sustainable health systems are needed.

“The Cuban health system has proved its sustainability and functionality to address such situations and, in turn, has managed to maintain and consolidate the main health indicators nationwide, despite the criminal blockade imposed by the United States to Caribbean nation, “Ferrer said.
